This poem terminates at Lalibela, Ethiopia, sometime in early 2011.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Tej<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The dancers shrug off the world. Everything that moves here<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">moves from the shoulders down. We drink <em>tej <\/em>and compare with<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fanta Orange. Then dance with the dancers, clumsy, white with brown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A thousand years past, faith slammed into the rock and kept<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">slamming. Mountains bore churches. More people came and keep<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">coming, flecking the hills with fires, life seeking purchase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We drink <em>tej <\/em>in the smoke-filled hall and clap to drums,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">our sore legs throbbing. Round the fire, dancers shrug off the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We drink more<em> tej. <\/em>They beckon to us, brown shoulders bobbing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Happy World Poetry Day.
