<\/figure>\n\n\n\nAspel<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Is this how it is, Mr Give us a Clue?<\/p>\n\n\n\n If we manage to make it to eighty-nine,<\/p>\n\n\n\n mostly forgotten, most of the time?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Guest starring on ‘Morecambe and Wise’,<\/p>\n\n\n\n digging drains, selling beds, sent away in the war,<\/p>\n\n\n\n doing a year in the King’s Rifle Corps,<\/p>\n\n\n\n having seven kids, and three or four wives –<\/p>\n\n\n\n you thrived when people still lived many lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But all that you did now reeks of before,<\/p>\n\n\n\n a lost age from back in the days of yore,<\/p>\n\n\n\n nights of Miss World and the Eurovision,<\/p>\n\n\n\n all that national bonding on television<\/p>\n\n\n\n when television was still the glue<\/p>\n\n\n\n that united us while you read the news.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Those dusty archives of video,<\/p>\n\n\n\n Crackerjack, Antiques Roadshow,<\/p>\n\n\n\n you sat on sofas, legs akimbo,<\/p>\n\n\n\n chatting to the starlets of the past,<\/p>\n\n\n\n forgotten now, youth gone so fast,<\/p>\n\n\n\n will we all be so outcast?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Is that how it is, Mr Give us a Clue?<\/p>\n\n\n\n If we manage to make it to eighty-nine,<\/p>\n\n\n\n mostly forgotten, most of the time?<\/p>\n\n\n\n If we do, will we be like you?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Yes, I wrote a poem about Michael Aspel.
