{"id":683,"date":"2023-01-12T15:03:56","date_gmt":"2023-01-12T14:03:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jimclarke.net\/?p=683"},"modified":"2023-01-12T15:03:58","modified_gmt":"2023-01-12T14:03:58","slug":"beyond-nadsat-now-in-print-and-available-for-free-via-open-access","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jimclarke.net\/index.php\/2023\/01\/12\/beyond-nadsat-now-in-print-and-available-for-free-via-open-access\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Beyond Nadsat&#8217; now in print and available for free via Open Access"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Over at Ponying the Slovos, our ongoing project on invented languages in art and literature, I wrote a series of posts on Anthony Burgess&#8217;s <em>other <\/em>invented languages a couple of years back, of which there are more than a few. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These collected thoughts have now been expanded, revised and published in the peer-reviewed Hungarian journal of English literature, <em>The Anachronist, <\/em>and (almost all) the journal is free to read or download in the spirit of open access thanks to the publishers at ELTE, Hungary&#8217;s foremost university.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ojs.elte.hu\/public\/journals\/26\/cover_issue_357_en_US.jpg?w=525&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\" View Vol. 20 (2022): Burgess and Droogs: A Post-Centennial Collection of Essays \"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In this paper, Burgess is used to demonstrate that the role of invented languages in literature goes far beyond the existing well-explored territories of Science Fiction (SF) or High Fantasy, though they predominate therein, and can also be found in historical novels, and even realist fiction, as Burgess&#8217;s variegated novels reveal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is <a href=\"https:\/\/ponyingtheslovos.coventry.domains\/\" title=\"Ponying the Slovos's\">Ponying the Slovos&#8217;s<\/a> second publication for 2023, and it&#8217;s not even two weeks in.
